Postcard from Paris

Hola mis Amigos Queridos! 

Postkarten schreiben ist old-school!? Also das finde ich nicht!!! In meinen Augen sind Postkarten immer noch die beste Möglichkeit, um seinen Liebsten einen persönlichen Gruß aus der Ferne zu schicken. Auf eine Postkarte kann man keine Romane schreiben, sondern nur die 2-3 Dinge, die den Reisenden am meissten beeindruckt haben, was sie zu den ehrlichsten und übersichtlichsten Reiseberichterstattern überhaupt macht. Ich sollte wirklich öfter Postkarten von unterwegs senden...und am besten fange ich heute gleich mal damit an! Hier kommt also meine Postkarte aus Paris, die euch von unserem unvergesslichen Wochenende dort berichtet. Packt also die Lesebrillen raus und träumt euch in die Ferne - in die Stadt der Lichter und der Liebe!

EN: You think writing postcards is old-school?! Well, I don´t think so! In my eyes, postcards still offer the best opportunity to give your beloved ones back home a first-hand impression your journey. If written with an open mind and pure honesty, postcards will always be the shortest but most original documentation of what has been an awesome trip and so I am writing one for you guys today! It´ll tell you nearly all there is to know about our wonderfully romantic trip to Paris. So get your reading-glasses out and dream yourself into the city of love and endless lights! 

Gereist_sind wir diesmal mit Air France. Das Ticket war wirklich super günstig und es hat auch alles gut geklappt. Am CDG Airport in Paris angekommen, brachte uns der RER B Express Train(9,75€ pro Fahrt, ca 45min) direkt zur Notre Dame Station, von wo aus wir unsere lang ersehnte Stadterkundung begannen. Wenn die Distanzen mal etwas größer wurden, bewegten wir uns mit der Pariser Metro von A nach B. Das System ist Anfangs vielleicht etwas verwirrend aber wenn man es einmal raus hat, geht es schön schnell voran. Empfehlen kann ich die 10-er Karten für 13,75€ (genannt "Carnet"), damit kommt man wirklich am günstigsten weg und ist flexibel.

We traveled_ with Air France from Berlin to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris as they really offered the cheapest and most comfortable option to get there. From the airport, we took the RER B Express train to Notre Dame station, which cost us 9,75€. Throughout the whole weekend we frequently used the public metro lines and got along quite well, once we understood the confusing system. Being on a city trip, one should opt for the 10-Single-Fares Package, called "Carnet" which costs around 13,75€ and offers a lot of flexibility.

 Gewohnt_haben wir in einem süßen kleinen Apartment gleich in der Nähe vom Trocadero. Es war sauber, gemütlich und vom Balkon konnte man den Eiffelturm sehen. Gefunden haben wir es bei AirB´n´B!

We stayed_ at a small but very sweet and cosy appartment which we had rented through airB´n´B. It was very close to the Trocadero and from our balcony we could see the top of the Eiffel Tower. Who needs more? 

Gesehen_haben wir fast alle typischen Pariser Sehenswürdigkeiten, wie den Eiffelturm, die Notre Dame Kathedrale, das Moulin Rouge, die Basilika Sacré-Cœur, den Arc de Triumphe, die Champs Elysees, den Parc de la Villete und das Louvre von außen. Wir wollten unser Wochenende allerdings nicht mit stundenlangem Schlangestehen verschwenden und entschieden uns daher, den Besuch auf der Spitze des Eiffelturms, sowie den des Louvre auszulassen. Es gab doch so viele tolle Alternativen!

We´ve seen_pretty much all the famous sights as the Eiffel Tower, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Moulin Rouge, Sacré-Cœur, Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees, Parc de la Villete and the Louvre from the outside. We just didn´t feel like spending half our weekend waiting in lines, which is why we skipped going on top of the Eiffel Tower or going inside of the Louvre. Genossen_haben wir den besten Afternoon Tea unseres Lebens im Ladurée Tearoom auf der Champs Elysées. Wie im Himmel auf Erden!

We enjoyed_the most awesome afternoon tea at the Ladurée Tearoom on Champs Elysées. Just heaven on earth!

 

Gestaunt_haben wir über die wahnsinnig tolle Aussicht vom Tour Montparnasse. Für nur 14€ Eintritt und nahezu kein Anstehen bekommt man dort den besten Panoramablick über Paris geboten. Definitiv empfehlenswert!

We were stunned_by the most amazing view from Tour Montparnasse where we chose to go as an alternative to the top of the Eiffel Tower. 14€ and no waiting line is what it takes to really get the best  panoramic views over Paris! 

Geliebt_habe ich die wunderschönen alten Gassen vom Viertel Montmarte. Überall gibt es kleine Bücherläden, Kunstgalerien, Antiquitätengeschäfte und Boulangerien mit verführerischem Angebot. Dazwischen dann die vielen kleinen Windmühlen und an der Spitze des Hügels die wohl schönste Kathedrale, die ich je gesehen habe: Die Basilique du Sacré-Cœur. Einfach nur schön!

We loved_these magnificent alleys of Montmarte with their charming old townhouses and all these romantic little windmills in between. Every street held little book stores, art galleries, antique stores or one of these terribly tempting Boulangeries, with their colorful assortments of tartes and Macarons. And then, being the cherry on top, there is this most beautiful Basilique du Sacré-Cœur with its marble walls and this shape that reminds me of the Disney Castle. It´s just beautiful up there and I would have liked to have so much more time to explore it all!  

    

    

    

   

    

Genervt_haben mich tatsächlich manchmal die vielen vielen Menschen, die unhöflichen Straßenverkäufer und der leider immer wiederkehrende Regen. Außerdem hat der wirklich schlecht aufgearbeitete LonelyPlanet Stadtplan mein Herz gelegentlich zum Pulsieren gebracht. Aber naja, das sind alles Dinge über die man hinwegsehen kann, wenn das Gesamtpaket stimmt - und das hat es in Paris allemal!

We were annoyed_by a few of these very rude guys selling bracelets and little Eiffel Tower Souvenirs at all the major tourist attractions and sometimes there really were just too many people in one place. Especially at Sacré-Cœur, it was impossible to shoot nice pictures without about a hundred others running in between. What has really annoyed me most, though, was this horrible street map of my LonelyPlanet travel guide. Not good guys! Even the free maps they were giving out at the airport were much better than yours! 

Gegessen_haben wir viel! Es ist aber auch alles so lecker! Schon zum Frühstück gab es immer ein Stückchen Quiche und ein Croissant mit Erdbeerkonfitüre aus der nächstgelegenen Boulangerie, unterwegs gab es überall leckere Crépes(die besten bei Crepes de Paris an der Kreuzung von Boulevard und Rue Montmartre) und Tartes und sowieso immer wieder diese göttlich leckeren Macarons! Außerdem gab es am samstagabend den obligatorischen Besuch im  Hard Rock Cafe. Kann ich aber in Paris nicht unbedingt weiterempfehlen. Hohe Preise und lange Anstehzeiten, und unter der Masse leidet leider auch die Qualität der Burger.

We ate_quite a lot! There is just sooo much really good stuff to eat in Paris!!! Bor breakfast, we usually had Quiche and Croissants with marmalade from the closest Boulangerie, on the go, there were the most delicious Crêpes(best at Crepes de Paris at the crossing of Boulevard and Rue Montmartre), Tartes and of course Macarons. Of course, the obligatory visit at the Hard Rock Cafe couldn´t be left out. I can´t really recommend their Paris Restaurant, though. Prices are up, waiting times are long and the quality of the burgers can´t keep up with what´s expected.

    

   

   

    

   

Gelesen_habe ich natürlich hauptsächlich den Lonely Planet für Paris aber wenn ich mal eine freie Minute hatte, habe ich meine Nase auch in Carlos Ruiz Zafóns neueste Novelle "Der Fürst des Parnass" gesteckt. Wie immer spannend bis zum Ende und voller bildhafter Metaphern. Ein wahrer Lesegenuss!

We, well rather I read_the Lonely Planet Paris Edition, obviously but whenever there was a little time, I also held my nose into the new little masterpiece by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, called "The Count of Parnass." A true reading pleasure, as always! 

Gehört_haben wir Lobo Hombre en Paris  wenn wir abends auf dem Balkon ein Glas Wein genossen und den Mond beobachtet haben, während hinter den umliegenden Hausdächern der  Eiffelturm in der Ferne glitzerte.

We listened_to Lobo Hombre en Paris while we were enjoying a glass of wine on the balcony at night, watching the moon and the glittering Eiffel Tower in the distance.

Gekauft_habe ich nur richtig tolle Sachen! Neben obligatorischen Souvenirs, wie einem kleinen Eiffelturm, einer Starbuckstasse und einem Hard Rock Cafe Shirt, gab es endlich die lang ersehnte neue "Le Pliage"Tasche von Longchamp für den Unialltag, die ich im Flagshipstore auf der Rue St Honore erstand. Es fühlt sich wirklich königlich an, auf dieser Straße zu shoppen! Gleich ein paar Häuser weiter bin ich auch ins Chanel Make up Studio gestolpert, wo ich von einer Kosmetikerin geschminkt und in Farbtönen beraten wurde. Normalerweise mag ich die Verkäuferinnen in Kosmetikgeschäften überhaupt nicht leiden und fühle mich dort wie die hässlichste Kreatur der Welt. Nicht aber bei Chanel! Die Kosmetikerin war einfach megafreundlich und hat mich behandelt wie eine Prinzessin. Herausspaziert bin ich schließlich mit "Rouge Coco Paradis" auf den Lippen und zusammen mit dem passenden "Rose Claire" Crayon in der Tasche. Am meisten aber haben wir an diesem Wochenende in die köstlichen Macarons, Tartes und einen wahnsinnig tollen Tee von Ladurée investiert. Jeden Sonntagmorgen genießen wir ihn und denken an unseren tollen Urlaub zurück. *seufz*

We, again rather I, shopped_some really great things! Apart from the common items on my souvenir list, such as the obvious Starbucks city mug and Hard Rock Cafe Shirt, a little Eiffel Tower statue and some postcards, I finally got a new large-sized "Le Pliage" bag from Longchamp which will be my new companion on campus. I bought it at the original flagship store on Rue St Honoré. What a royal experience to shop on this street! A few houses down the road, I also happened to run into the Chanel Make-up studio, another great experience. Usually I hate the shop assistants at cosmetics stores because they tend to treat you like the ugliest creature in the world. However, at Chanel, I felt like a princess. They tried different shades of lipstick on me until I walked out with a brand new "Rouge Coco Paradis" and the complementary "Rose Claire" Crayon. Most of my money, though, I probably spent at Ladurée. Especially on the last day, we got another two boxes of Macarons, some more of these delicious tartes for the flight back home and the most awesome black tea "Ladurée Melange" which is blended with vanilla and lemon flavors. It´s like heaven, having a cup of it on Sunday mornings! 

   

  

Geträumt_habe ich davon eine Katze zu sein, die über die nächtlichen Dächer des verwinkelten Montmartre streift, die wunderschöne Aussicht mit dem glitzernden Eiffelturm in der Ferne genießt und anschließend dem Konditor bei Ladurée um die Beine schnurrt, bis er eins von diesen köstlichen Macarons für mich fallen lässt. ;-)

I dreamed_of being a cat which is climbing across the nightly rooftops of Montmartre, watching the glittering Eiffel Tower in the distance, and breaking into the Ladurée bakery in the early morning, purring around the bakers' legs until he would finally drop a few of these delicious Macarons ;-)

Geschenkt_ bekommen habe ich diese Reise vom allerbesten Freund der Welt! Gibt es denn ein besseres Geburtstagsgeschenk, als die Stadt der Liebe gemeinsam zu erkunden? Wohl kaum! Und darum an dieser Stelle mehr als Tausend Dank für diese unvergesslich tollen Tage!

I got_this journey as a birthday present from the best boyfriend in the world. Has there ever been a better present than the opportunity to discover the city of love together with your big love? I don´t think so and because of that I am thanking you a thousand times more for these unforgettable days!!!
